Mountain progression guide

Frost resistance, silver, wolves, obsidian, and Moder prep.

Field note

What to do next

Use frost resistance, Bonemass power, and the Wishbone to mine silver safely before transporting dragon eggs for Moder.

First climb without wasting a corpse run

The first Mountain trip should confirm the terrain, not start a silver operation immediately. Freezing, wolves, and steep slopes punish players who climb too far before a portal hut and retreat line exist.

  • +Drink frost resistance before crossing the freezing line unless wolf cape or equivalent protection is already equipped.
  • +Climb in daylight with rested buff, Bonemass power ready, and enough stamina to retreat downhill.
  • +Mark safer slopes, exposed silver pings, ruined towers, caves, and steep drops before committing to a mining route.

Silver mining route

Silver is heavy and often exposed to wolves, drakes, and stone golems. The clean route is to build a protected portal nearby, locate veins with the Wishbone, then mine in controlled windows instead of chasing every ping.

  • +Keep the portal hut below or beside the mining zone, not on the most exposed ridge.
  • +Dig enough space around the vein to see incoming wolves before your stamina is empty.
  • +Move silver downhill by cart path, sled-like terrain drops, or ship staging instead of improvising while overweight.

Wolf and drake control

Most Mountain deaths happen when a wolf pack reaches you while stamina is already low. Treat sound cues and slope position as part of the fight, not background noise.

  • +Avoid mining at night until the portal route and escape slope are secure.
  • +Fight wolves on flatter ground where shield blocks and short melee trades are reliable.
  • +Use the bow for drakes, but do not tunnel on air targets while wolves are close.

Moder logistics

Moder preparation is mostly transport planning. Dragon eggs are heavy, the altar can be remote, and a bad portal position can turn one death into a long mountain climb.

  • +Find the altar before moving all three eggs so you know whether ship, cart, or staged portals make sense.
  • +Place a recovery portal below the fight or behind terrain, not directly beside the altar.
  • +Carry spare frost resistance, arrows, food, and repair access before offering the eggs.

Before entering

  • +Frost resistance mead or wolf cape.
  • +Iron pickaxe.
  • +Bonemass power for bad fights.
  • +Portal materials and stone for shelter.

First objectives

  • +Brew frost resistance mead before climbing.
  • +Use the Wishbone to locate silver veins.
  • +Build a protected mountain portal hut.
