Forge Valheim

Black Forest metal crafting station for bronze progression.

Field note

When it matters

Build the Forge after your first copper smelting loop so bronze axe, cultivator, shields, weapons, and metal upgrades can move the route forward.

Use this flow to understand where Forge enters progression and why it matters before crafting everything else.

Why the Forge matters in Black Forest

The Forge is the point where Black Forest stops being just scouting and becomes bronze progression. Build it after your first copper smelting loop so bronze tools, metal weapons, and workstation upgrades become available.

  • +Get surtling cores first, because the kiln and smelter make the Forge useful.
  • +Smelt copper before expecting the Forge recipe to carry progression by itself.
  • +Place it near storage, kiln, smelter, and workbench access so bronze batches do not become inventory juggling.

First Forge priorities

A new Forge should push the route forward, not drain all bronze into random crafts. The first useful loop is usually bronze axe, cultivator, shield or buckler choice, and enough repairs to support The Elder preparation.

  • +Craft bronze axe early if fine wood and portals are the next blockers.
  • +Craft cultivator before The Elder if carrot food is not online yet.
  • +Delay full bronze armor unless your deaths show that defense is the real bottleneck.

How to get it

Build after smelting copper and setting up the kiln and smelter loop.
